Naturopathic and Acupuncture Medicine

Serving Mt. Vernon, WA

Dr. Rebecca Wilhelm is a naturopathic doctor and licensed acupuncturist.    Her colleague Carrie Wine ND is a naturopathic doctor and Lilly Demers L.Ac. is a licensed acupuncturist.

Both Dr Wine and Dr Wilhelm practice specialty naturopathic family medicine, which mixes a blend of conventional approaches with an alternative perspective on health and healing.  Diet therapies, exercise recommendations, herbal or vitamin therapies, and acupuncture will be recommended before prescription medication when appropriate.  Treatment approaches are based on patients’ individual needs, not a “one size fits all” perspective.  Special interests of our practice include digestive health/ gastroenterology, hormone balance (including female hormones, thyroid, and adrenal), herbs and nutrition, and the integration of Western and naturopathic medicine.

We are sorry, but we are not taking new naturopathic patients at this time.    After deep contemplation, we have decided to change the practice to an acupuncture only clinic starting 9/3/2024. This is due to changes in insurance policies and re-imbursement, office staffing, and escalating costs and stressors of running a medical practice. Sadly, Dr. Wine will be leaving the practice at this time. She has been a wonderful doctor and colleague and we are thankful that we’ve gotten to work together for the last 5 years. We both would like to express our deepest gratitude for our patients and to thank them for letting us be part of their health care team over the years.

We are accepting new acupuncture patients and will book these patients about 2-8 weeks ahead depending on availability.

If you are using your insurance, and unable to schedule with us because we are not taking new patients, please see who else is listed as a contracted provider with your insurance.  You can call that provider directly to try to establish elsewhere.  At this time, we do not have a specific recommendation on where non-established patients should go for care.

COVID and RESPIRATORY ILLNESS updates:  Spring 2024

We see patients in the office and by telehealth.  Masks are required only if you have respiratory symptoms such as cough, runny or stuffy nose, congestion, or sore throat or fever.   Please call our office to arrange a telehealth visit or appropriate care.   If you have been exposed to a confirmed case of Covid 19 in the prior 2 weeks, please wear a mask in office or continue to quarantine and we will arrange telemedicine.  If you simply prefer to be seen at home instead of coming to our office for other concerns, we are happy to arrange this.  It is appropriate for many types of visits.

TELEMEDICINE

Meet our Providers

Dr. Rebecca Wilhelm received her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine and Masters in Acupuncture in 2004 in Seattle, Washington from Bastyr University, an accredited four-year, post-graduate naturopathic medical program. The training consists of comprehensive study of the conventional medical sciences as well as a detailed study of a wide variety of natural therapies. The scope of practice for naturopathic doctors includes all aspects of family medicine, from pediatrics to geriatrics.

Dr. Wilhelm completed a year of post-doctoral clinical training in naturopathic family practice at an established clinic in Seattle. She practiced in the Bay Area for 3 years, and then in an established group clinic in Mt Vernon for the next 4 years.  Since 2012, she has been in her solo practice. She was on faculty at Middleway Acupuncture Institute (Mt Vernon WA) but is currently on leave.   Dr. Wilhelm is originally from the Midwest, but has lived in the Pacific Northwest since 1997. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, yoga, going out dancing and rollerskating!

Dr. Carrie Wine joined the practice as a part time provider in 9/2019.  She is no longer accepting new patients and will be leaving the practice as we shift to an acupuncture only clinic in 9/2024.    She is also a Bastyr trained naturopathic physician and graduated in 2017.   Her areas of special interest are in hormone disorders, chronic fatigue, sleep disturbances, and general naturopathic family medicine.  She works extensively with diet therapies, and has recent interest and expertise in low dose naltrexone for chronic pain conditions.  In her free time, she can be found hiking with her husband and young daughter, out in the garden, or involved in the creative arts.

Lilly Demers LAc is our most recent addition to the team, joining us in 7/2022.   She is a licensed acupuncturist and obtained a Masters in Acupuncture from the Middle Way Acupuncture Institute, herbal training at the Clearpath School of Herbal Medicine, and an apprenticeship in Ayurveda and plant medicine and training in Five Element Shiatsu. She practices a blend of Five Element Acupuncture, Japanese Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.   She enjoys helping patients move out of stress and anxiety, resolve digestive issues, transform pain, and regulate patterns of imbalance in women’s health.

We are not currently contracted with:  Ambetter, Apple Health (unless it says Molina), CHP,  United CHP,  Basic Medicare plans.   We would love to serve our Medicare clients, but basic Medicare plans do not allow naturopaths to contract with them as providers.  We also are not contracted with medicare for acupuncture.

*Time of service cash discounts are also available for patients without insurance coverage. We accept cash, check and credit/debit cards.

People often have questions about their insurance and coverage.   Sometimes we are in network with an insurance listed above, but a patient has a plan that excludes our services.  The best way you can find out what YOUR insurance coverage contains is to call your insurance and ask “Do I have naturopathic coverage” or “Do I have acupuncture coverage”.    Ask if there are limitations on a number of visits per year. Understanding how much your yearly deductible is will also help you understand how much out of pocket cost you may have. Most patients do not need a referral to come to our office.

Some patients with Kaiser insurance may choose to have a referral sent from their PCP (primary care provider), though most Kaiser plans do allow 3 naturopathic visits per complaint and 8 acupuncture visits per complaint per calendar year without a referral. Patients with Medicare typically pay out of pocket using our time of service discount, as basic Medicare does not cover Naturopathic or Acupuncture visits.    Please call us or your insurance if you have questions about your insurance plans.
